It is a legal tender in China and has a face value of 50 Yuan. The People's Bank of China first issued the Chinese Gold Panda series in 1982. It was initially available in 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz sizes, with later additions of a 5 oz size, a 12 oz size, and a 1/20 oz size. The gold panda series is known for updating the image on its reverse on a yearly basis, similar to the Perth Mint's Gold Kangaroo Series.

In 2016, the People's Bank of China changed the weight of the gold panda series from ounces to grams, with available weights of 1, 3, 8, 15, and 30 grams. Proof editions are struck in 1 kilo, 150 grams, 100 grams, and 50 grams. 999 fine gold with a weight of 3 grams.

In instances where there is a discrepancy where the customer believes to be unjust, please refer to the grading companys guarantee policy. Both NGC and PCGS have a program where they will compensate the owner of the current coin if they believe the coin deserves a lower grade than it had originally received. Please note, bullion coins, bars and rounds are mass-produced and are not struck to the same quality standards as collector coins. These bullion products are not certified and therefore will not always be 100% perfect.
